SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES

Please note that you must fill and return a release form to be considered for possible publication at SMASH! Comics.

Before you get to the point of submitting your work to any publisher analyze your motives and make an honest effort to educate yourself about everything involved in the industry and learn proper attitudes and etiquette for approaching publishers. Failure to do so often results in you wasting a lot of time, effort and heart ache. SMASH! Comics prides itself on dealing with all of its associates in a fair and professional manner, and the same is expected from anyone who would even like to have their work considered. In this regard we do not make any exceptions.

SMASH! Comics accepts submissions for main stream comic books in any genre, be it fiction, non-fiction or anything else. That being said we only accept FULLY FINISHED COMIC BOOK SERIES. This means that your comic series must be completely finished. No Exceptions! If you are submitting your series- writing, art, inking, and lettering must be finished. YOUR BOOK MUST BE IN COLOR. We do not pay advances of any kind for creators to finish their work or for any other reason.

We do not accept portfolios from artists or manuscripts from writers. We do not put together writers and illustrator's. You must do that on your own. A good place to meet fellow artists and writers is at Digital Webbing.

Finished submissions can be mailed to us and must include a release form or the submission will be destroyed. The release form does not constitute acceptance of your book and is not a binding contract at any time. It is provided as a form of legal protection for both the publisher and the creator.

THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES MUST BE ADHERED TO.

All comic book series submissions must include the following to be considered for possible publication by SMASH! Comics. If your comic book series is selected by the editorial staff of SMASH! Comics for possible publication, your creation must pass the requirements of Diamond Distribution Service "Also". Diamond is the sole distributor of comic books in the United States. Although we may love your work, Diamond has the last word. If they reject our submission of your work, we can not publish it. Hence, the stringent requirements for possible publication of comic books by SMASH! Comics. These requirements are in place for comic books to give them a good possibility of getting picked up by Diamond.

Complete Works: 

All work submitted to SMASH! Comics must be complete.  We do not accept ideas or half finished work or partial pages.  To have any chance of publication all work must be finished and ready for publication.  When you submit your finished work the guideline for size must be adhered to.  This means that if you are submitting a comic book you will be sending a minimum of 6 to 8 complete comic books which constitute a series. Your books also must be in a size format that is the standard of the industry for it's trim size.

Size:

Your comic book series must be a minimum of six to eight complete books, 24 pages a piece.  More books in a series are welcome then the minimum stated.

Color: 

We Accept Only Color Books.*

Style:

Your comic must be equal in style to the top 10 books on the comic book shelf today.  Take some time, look at the top 10 books and honestly compare your work with them.  If they are not equal to these, in panel layout, composition, anatomy, then they will not have a chance of being distributed.*   We will not accept stories promoting violence, drug use, sexual violence or prejudice without moral consequences.

Submission Format:

Send a cover letter which will include the following. A one sentence pitch of your story followed by a one paragraph synopsis. Include a character bio sheet of the main characters.  We accept CD and DVD disks of your finished graphic novel pages in .tiff, jpeg file format.  We also accept the first ten pages of each finished book.  Please send color prints on regular paper of the first 10 pages of each book.  Include all your contact information, name, address, phone, e-mail, web site.  All submissions that follow the above guidelines will be reviewed by the editorial staff and will receive a reply.

Additional Information

*We at SMASH! Comics love comic books.  That's why we are in the business.  And since it is a business, each new comic book created must match or exceed the current industry standards for quality and production.  If you really have the hunger to succeed, you must become aware of the current standard of graphic publication that is making money for publishers.  SMASH! Comics must pass the standards of our distributors so that we can get your book onto the shelves and into the hands of the buying public. 

Art and business can be at odds with each other.  SMASH! Comics is here to  be in the middle to make you the creator happy as well as the retailer and distributor happy too.  To this end, we welcome the chance to review submissions but to be seriously considered for possible publication all of the above guidelines must be met.
